Minutes of Meeting 

@ 4C’s Board Room

January 10, 2008

ATTENDANCE: 

Members Present:  Donna Ruiz, Melissa Neal, Megan Sprigg, Christine Fields, Kris Mooney, DeeAnn Camp, Gerry Weller, Renee Daniel, Mary Richards, Denise Steward, Maryann Workman, Debby Roaden, Kim Ginn, Betsy Barrett, Clark Kugler, Lisa Mandelert, Bari Kraus, Mike Ruiz

MINUTES: 

December minutes were reviewed and motion was made to approve the minutes from the meeting. Motion was made by Megan Sprigg. Renee Daniel seconded. Motion was carried.
Corrections were presented about misspelling of several members for the last month’s minutes. Recording secretary apologized for the errors and stated corrections will be made.

PRESENTATION: 

President Kris Mooney introduced Mike Ruiz who works for CAEYC’S web master group. He gave a power point presentation regarding Communications, bringing to the board’s attention: 

Soliciting Website Postings:  Emails are fine but are frequently forgotten. He recommended phone conversations draft content briefings and follow up with e-mail.

 

Instructions for Web posting:  He stated he receives several e- mails from everyone that are too confusing. He suggested e-mailing MaryAnn Workman and she will follow up.

 

Errors and Omissions: Call him directly. He can take care of the problem. He emphasized that we list accurate dates and times of events. For example The Ohio Education Child Care conference “The Pursuit of HappYness keynote speaker listed no date or time.

 

Turnaround time for web postings:  He needs more time for a change to the design.

 

Audio/Visual:  Photos need more captions under the photos. He stated he can add audio and video to any page. He gave an example of what could have been done for the NAEYC conference photos and information.

 

Utilization of website: Mike stated the site is being under utilized and needs more excitement. He emphasized that the redundancy is ok on websites. We can have links to posting on multiple pages. This is recommended since there is overlap in the child development field

 

Color use on web pages:  Some of the main points on certain pages don’t stand out enough. Use of different colors can draw more attention to main points. He has been sneaking in some red color fonts on some of the new pages. This can be done more throughout the site.

 

Links to other websites:  Page links need to be published and updated. Some have been removed or changed. Student names needs to be updated.

 

Events promoted on website:  Any event needs to be: 1) promoted before the event and 2) reported upon after the event (who/what/when/where/how).

 

General follow-ups for website:  Mike emphasized again, he should be called directly.

Gerry Weller mentioned that she has pictures from the NAEYC conference of people getting on and off the bus.  There was discussion over whether permission was needed to post members’ photos and names. Kris Mooney said that it would be great for communications board and used the example that was given about how the sound and video on the website would enhance it. Mike said it would really give our website some excitement.

Kris stated changes will be made and submitted to Maryann Workman.
 

COMMITTEE REPORTS: 

ACCREDITATION & QUALITY IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE

Kim Ginn stated continuous improvement on the accreditation of the system has been given to Kathleen Bryant. Questions about the website as it regards this committee should be given to Kathleen Bryant instead of Kim

NOMINATIONS & ELECTIONS COMMITTEE 

Debby Roaden reported her thanks to everyone for voting for CAEYC’S board executive Committee and Members at-large. They are as follows. Kris Mooney, President; Donna Ruiz, Vice President: Support; DeeAnn Camp, Recording Secretary; Shelly Bowers, Member-At-Large.

OAEYC  COMMITTEE

Denise Stewart is stepping down as the OAEYC Vice Chairperson. She was elected as the Vice President of Membership of the OAEYC  

Melissa Neal will serve as the new representative for OAEYC. Kris Mooney made a motion to accept Melissa Neal as the new representative, Gerry Weller seconded the motion, the motion carried. Melissa Neal is planning on being the conference committee co-chair. Gerry Weller offered to help with this but put out a call for newer members to sign up and also other people who could help out on various committees. They do not have to be members of CAEYC. 

Gerry reported that Renee Daniel will serve as chair of the public policy committee. Renee Daniel and Gerry Weller will be attending the NAEYC public policy conference in Washington, DC February 12-13, 2008. There was a motion made to accept  the appointment of Renee Daniel as Public Policy Chair, Kris Mooney  made the motion, Debbie Roaden seconded the motion was carried.  Barb Kraus offered to co-chair the public policy committee. 

FINANCE COMMITTEE 

It was requested that budgets should be turned in to the Finance Committee. 

MINI-GRANTS COMMITTEE 

Betsy Barrett stated there were currently no items to report.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE 

Hayley Gunter resigned as the Membership Secretary. The question was asked what the title involved. Kris Mooney stated that some of the responsibilities involve recruiting new members. Kris read the job descriptions which included among other duties:

·      submit any membership dues that are collected to NAEYC

·      be familiar with NAEYC’S on-line membership information system  

·      generate mailing lists for newsletter

·      assist in recruiting new members 

Kris also mentioned that currently there are 420 on the list serve.

SPECIAL EVENTS: 

Program Events: Mary Richards reported that Margie Carter would be available in 2009 as a keynote speaker for the event. She is not available in 2008 but she said she would work with us, and partner for an in service 

Program Conference:  Gerry stated that there was a need for a chair for the conference. Megan Spriggs will serve on the committee. Gerry will serve as interim chair in order to get the process started.. Discussion was over if committee co-chairs have to be voted on. Gerry clarified that officers and members at-large are voted. Everyone is appointed.  

Focus Group:  Lisa Mandelert reported that she was part of a group in Columbus   that was developing writing teams to put together core competencies. The document is entailed The Ohio Professional development Network. Lisa also stated that on April 5th in Columbus, Ohio they are having a luncheon to celebrate and acknowledging all star rated centers that were rated last year.  

Infant-Toddler Focus groups:  Were well-attended, relaxing for most.  Would like to do more hands-on workshops. 

Bus Trip to NAEYC Conference:  Was a huge success.

 Week of the Young Child:  Mary Richards also reported that most people who are interested are employees. One of her sites is closing and she is concerned. A motion was made to accept Judy Watkins and Kelly on serving on the committee. Kris Mooney made the motion and Megan Spriggs seconded it, Motion was carried. The conference will be held on April 3-5th in Columbus, Ohio. The Week of the Young Child is April 13-19th.

PRESENTATION: 

Next the groups heard from Bari Kraus who is the owner of her own business called PEAR. PEAR stands for Program, Education Advisory Resources.  What her business can do is develop a program focused on social mental health. She saw a lot of children coming in a setting with serious issues. They can provide strategies in ECE in behavioral health and to teach teachers in preschools, and assist in helping with training and education. She started the business in August of 2007, and has presented her service sin many schools. She gave out brochures to the group and thanked Kris Mooney for allowing her to present to the group.

OTHER NOTES:

Kim Ginn announced that 4c’s is currently looking for a full time T/TA Step Up To Quality Coordinator. The minimum is a BA. The position is full time 35 hours. Base Salary is $28,000. She asked if the board knew of any one that might qualify to please contact her at 4c’s. 

Gerry Weller announced she’s retiring at the end of the semester. She brought books to give away that might be useful to the board and staff.  She welcomed people to take some before leaving. 

Kris Mooney announced that the Museum Center is having an African Culture Fest the week of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday., January 19-21,2008
